    Canı hiçbir şey yapmak istemeyen küçük kutup ayısı Pamuk, yatağında öylece yatar. Oğlunun durumuna üzülen Baba Kutup Ayısı, Bilge Deniz Ayısı’nın önerisiyle ona şarkı söyleyen bir kuş bulmaya karar verir ve macera başlar:

    “Peki, güney nerede?” diye sordu Baba Kutup Ayısı.

    “Kuzeyin olmadığı yerde. Biz burada kuzey kutbunda, isminden de anlaşılacağı üzere en kuzeyde olduğumuza göre, güney burası hariç her yerde,” diye cevapladı Bilge Denizayısı.

    “Hımm…” dedi Baba Kutup Ayısı kafasını kaşırken. Eh bir şekilde güneyi bulacaktı elbet, o kadar da zor olmasa gerek diye düşündü.

    “Ama önünde uzun bir yol var,” dedi Bilge Denizayısı.

    “Sorun değil. Şimdi güneye doğru yola çıkarım, ötücü bir kuş bulur ve canı sıkılan oğlumu tekrar neşesine kavuştururum,” dedi Baba Kutup Ayısı. İzlanda, Afrika ve hatta güney kutbuna seyahat eden Baba Kutup Ayısı çok sayıda hayvanla tanışır.
